Do Schools Allow Students to Use AI? A Parent’s Guide

A teacher may permit students to use AI to generate practice questions, explain an unfamiliar concept, or suggest ways to organize ideas before they begin their own work. Even when those uses are allowed, your student may need to identify what they used, verify any information the tool provides, and submit work that reflects their own understanding.

Using AI to produce an answer that a student presents as entirely their own can violate classroom rules, especially when the assignment is meant to assess independent thinking or writing. The distinction is often between using a tool to support learning and letting it do the work being graded, so you should encourage your student to ask the teacher when that line is unclear.
