A notebook works well if you like writing by hand, while a note on your phone may be easier to update during a commute or before bed. You can make a fresh list each day, add to one ongoing list, or write only when you want a pause—the useful format is the one you will actually return to.

On a hard day, you do not need to force a cheerful answer; start with something modest, such as a task you finished or a place where you felt comfortable.
