2.5-Ton Scissor Car Jack: Fit and Tire-Change Guide

Start with the 3.7-inch minimum height. The jack must fit beneath your vehicle’s designated lift point, including when the tire at that corner is flat and the vehicle sits lower than usual. Ground clearance elsewhere under the car may not tell you whether the approved point is reachable.

Then consider the 17.1-inch maximum height. The jack needs to raise the vehicle far enough to remove the flat tire and install the replacement. Vehicle shape, tire size, and suspension travel can affect how much lift that takes. Neither end of the range guarantees a fit by itself.

Find the approved jacking points and any vehicle-specific steps in your owner’s manual before you need them roadside. If you cannot establish that the jack reaches the right point and provides adequate tire clearance, do not assume it will work simply because it is described as a car jack.

During a single-point tire change, you do not normally lift the vehicle’s entire weight. Its total weight alone therefore cannot tell you the load on the jack—or establish that a jack is suitable. Follow your vehicle’s jacking instructions, read the jack’s capacity marking and operating instructions, and never exceed its rating.

Move away from traffic to firm, level ground. Set the parking brake and follow your owner’s manual for securing the vehicle. If you cannot find a safe place or follow the procedure, arrange roadside assistance instead.

Place the jack squarely beneath the approved lift point on a stable surface, following its instructions. Do not lift from an unapproved part of the vehicle or from ground where the jack could shift or sink. Raise the vehicle only as much as the tire change requires, and keep clear of moving parts and pinch points.

Never go beneath a vehicle supported only by a jack. After fitting the wheel, lower the vehicle carefully and tighten its fasteners to the manufacturer’s specified torque and procedure. Hand-tight is not the finished step.
