Which Stroller Is Most Comfortable for Your Baby?

Newborns need a stroller setup designed for their stage, such as a manufacturer-approved bassinet or newborn-ready seat that reclines as directed; a regular upright seat may be better suited to an older baby with stronger head and neck control. Whatever you choose, your baby should rest in the intended position without slumping forward, with the harness adjusted snugly according to the stroller instructions.

For long walks or uneven sidewalks, a stroller that is easy to steer and handles bumps smoothly may keep your baby more settled than a compact model chosen solely for its small fold. If most of your trips involve short errands and tight spaces, easy maneuvering and a secure, well-fitting seat may matter more to you than features intended for rougher routes.

As you compare strollers, look for a seat that accommodates your baby without crowding their shoulders or leaving the harness awkwardly positioned, and follow the manufacturer’s guidance as they grow. Breathable-feeling, easy-to-clean fabrics can make daily use more pleasant, but avoid loose blankets or extra padding that could shift around your baby’s face or interfere with the harness.

Our Baby Stroller & Car Seat Cushion with Head Protection for Newborns is an accessory you may consider while thinking about comfort and fit, but it is not a substitute for a newborn-appropriate stroller setup or a correctly adjusted harness. Before adding any cushion, follow your stroller’s instructions; for a car seat, use only inserts or padding the car seat manufacturer permits, since added material can affect harness fit. Our guide to newborn stroller cushion fit and car seat safety covers those considerations in more detail.

A baby may fall asleep during a walk, but a stroller seat is not a replacement for a safe sleep space; move your baby to a firm, flat sleep surface when you can. Keep their face visible and unobstructed during the ride, and reassess their position if they slump, seem too warm, or appear uncomfortable.
